Crafting recipes and physical upgrades
Press C to open crafting. Once a recipe is unlocked and its ingredients are in your inventory, you can make basic tools and consumables directly from the menu. Crafting produces the item; physical modules then improve compatible equipment.
The recipe tables below cover Scrap, Cutter, Thumper and Twister, three survival supplies, and Gas Tank, Flashlight and Backpack. Spraytron is a separate tool from this craftable-tool group.

Find and install your first tool upgrades
- Leave the train cabin for the Outskirts and look for white wreckage with red hatch panels.
- Grapple open a red hatch to collect a Gear and Plastic, then open another red hatch for Scissors.
- Bring both parts back to the cabin and interact with the blueprint bench.
- Select Scrap, choose its Flange slot and install the Gear. Its Heft upgrade adds 10 damage.
- Select Cutter, open its Blades slot and apply the Scissors for a +5 improvement. Check that the module appears in its slot and the tool’s stat has increased.
Crafting unlocks and upgrade problems
- How do I reveal more crafting recipes?
- Collect unfamiliar materials at least once. Fabric, Oxyworm, Refined Metal and Light Bulbs reveal recipes through first collection, while Twister requires Three Antennas and Backpack requires the Painted Corpse interaction.
- Why is the tool-upgrade option greyed out?
- Check that the matching upgrade part is in your inventory and that you have selected its compatible slot. A missing part or a mismatched slot prevents installation at the bench.
- Which materials should I save for Twister and Backpack?
- Keep Plastic, Aluminum and Metal for recurring tool recipes, plus Wires for Twister, Gas Tank and Flashlight. Reserve four Titanium when working toward Backpack.
